Competition
Ensure fair international competition
In several countries, national law and/or governmental policy contribute to such distortions; the market behaviour of some non-European carriers is not driven by market requirements. Fair competition is a guarantor of the lowest prices compatible with sustained, efficient operation; unfair competition will drive robust but unsubsidised competitors out of markets. In a functioning market, weak and inefficient competitors would be penalised by market forces. All governments should have independent competition authorities to ensure adherence to accepted “rules of the game”, thereby eliminating distortions to competition.
AEA calls upon European governments to effectively dissuade non-EU governments from pursuing discriminatory policies which distort competition amongst international airlines.
